OpenPandora - Sweet.

I've been a big fan of Pandora for a long time, I listen to it all the time while working. Pandora is an online radio program, that allows you to "seed" stations with favorite artists or songs. As you listen, you can rate songs up or down, and Pandora learns your preferences. A great way to learn about good music. Love it.

It's traditionally been a web-based application. Today, Pandora announced a new, desktop based version. I checked it out, and was pretty unimpressed, it didn't seem to add any functionality really, and the CPU usage appears to be an issue for MAC users. But in the comment section on another blog, someone mention OpenPandora, an open source project. I just downloaded it, and it's awesome.

It puts Pandora in your system try, and has some features I really like

  • You can force Pandora to stay on top
  • You can click on the system tray icon to control Pandora (FF, REW, Skip, Rate, etc.) without closing your screen
  • BEST - You get a small pop-up window with the artist and song listing, without having to close whatever you are working on.
Slick, simple and works great.

Get it here. Open Pandora
